One JPEG, PNG or WebP image. Its stored orientation is applied once before the rotation you choose.

Quarter turns move whole pixels without angle resampling. The exported file is still encoded again.

Any value other than 0 rotates by that angle and resizes the canvas to fit the whole picture. Fine detail may soften.

Mirroring is applied after the turn.

PNG output ignores this setting because PNG is lossless.

Used only by an arbitrary angle, where the rotated picture cannot cover the whole canvas. JPEG output has no transparency, so a transparent choice becomes white there.

How to use Rotate and Flip Image

    1. Choose your image in the Image field.
    2. Pick a quarter turn in Turn, or type a value in Extra angle in degrees.
    3. Set Mirror to left to right or top to bottom if the picture needs it.
    4. Choose an Output format, and a Corner fill if you used a free angle.
    5. Select Save the image, then download the rotated copy.

    Example: Rotate and Flip Image

Turn a square PNG a quarter turn clockwise.

    You add
A 512 by 512 PNG. Turn: 90 degrees clockwise. Extra angle: 0. Mirror: Do not mirror. Output format: Keep the original format.
    You get
The result reports that image-1.png was written as 512 by 512 pixels and downloads image-1-rotated.png. A marker that starts in the top-left corner ends up in the top-right corner, which is where a clockwise quarter turn sends it.

    Options

    Turn
The three quarter turns move whole pixels without inventing new ones. 270 degrees clockwise is the same turn as 90 degrees counterclockwise.
    Extra angle in degrees
Anything except 0 rotates by that angle and grows the canvas until the whole picture fits. Values run from -359 to 359 in steps of 0.5, and the picture is resampled, so fine detail can soften.
    Corner fill
Only an angled rotation leaves empty corners. Transparent works in PNG and WebP. JPEG cannot store transparency, so a transparent choice becomes white.
    Mirror
Applied after the turn. Mirrored text and logos read backwards, so check anything with wording on it.

    Supported inputs and limits

    File countOne image per run
    Input formatsJPEG, PNG or WebP
File sizeUp to 64 MiB and 40 megapixels
One JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 64 MiB and 40 megapixels. Every export, including a plain quarter turn or a mirror, is drawn to a canvas and encoded again, so JPEG and WebP can change fine detail. An angled rotation also resamples the picture and enlarges the canvas. Stored EXIF orientation is applied once, before your own turn, so an upright photo is not turned twice. Transparent corners need PNG or WebP. A quarter turn swaps the width and height, while a mirror keeps both and reverses the picture left to right.

Why a phone photo sometimes looks sideways

Many cameras store the picture in one orientation and add an EXIF orientation tag that says how it should be displayed. Software that reads the tag shows the photo upright, while software that ignores it shows the same file lying on its side. This tool applies the stored orientation first and your turn second, so a photo that already looks upright is not turned twice.

Questions about Rotate and Flip Image

Does rotating an image lose quality?

A quarter turn or a mirror moves whole pixels, so the rotation itself does not blur the picture. The export is still encoded again, which can change fine detail in JPEG and WebP. An arbitrary angle goes further, because the picture is resampled onto a new grid.

Why did my photo come out rotated twice?

The file carries an EXIF orientation tag from the camera. This tool applies that stored orientation once and then applies the turn you chose, so a photo that already looks upright stays upright after a single quarter turn.

Why are the corners of my angled picture empty or white?

A rotated rectangle cannot cover the whole canvas, so the corners it misses take the Corner fill you chose. Pick transparent for PNG or WebP, or white or black for any format.

Can I rotate by a fraction of a degree?

Yes. Extra angle in degrees steps in halves from -359 to 359, so 1.5 or -0.5 both work. Combine a quarter turn with a small angle when a scan is slightly crooked.
