One JPEG, PNG or WebP image.

Leave it empty to use only a bottom caption. Keep it short; long text wraps and shrinks to fit.

Leave it empty to use only a top caption. At least one caption is needed.

The usual meme style. Turn it off to keep the capitalisation you typed.

    12

Height of the text as a share of the picture height, so the same setting looks the same on a small and a large copy.

A dark outline behind light text keeps the caption readable over a busy picture.

    8

Share of the text size, measured from the edge of each letter. 0 draws no outline.

    90

Used by JPEG and WebP output. PNG is lossless and ignores this setting.

    How to use Meme Generator

    1. Choose one JPEG, PNG or WebP picture.
    2. Type a top caption, a bottom caption, or both. One empty line is fine.
    3. Set the text size, text color, outline color and outline thickness.
    4. Select Make meme, check the preview, then download the copy.

    Example: Meme Generator

Write the usual two-line caption on a square picture.

    You add
One 1200 by 1200 PNG, Top caption When the build passes, Bottom caption on the first try, Use capital letters on, Text size 12%, Outline thickness 8%.
    You get
A PNG named after the source with -meme added. Both captions appear in capital letters, one against the top edge and one against the bottom, in white with a black outline, each wrapped inside the margin.

    Options

    Top caption and Bottom caption
The two captions are placed as a pair against the top and bottom edges, which is the layout a two-line caption needs. Fill one box and leave the other empty for a single caption.
    Use capital letters
On by default because capital letters read strongly at a small size. Turn it off to keep the capitalisation you typed, including for names and punctuation.
    Outline thickness
Measured as a share of the text size, so the outline keeps its weight when the font shrinks to fit. A thin outline suits a light picture; a thick one holds up over a busy one.
    Output format
Keeping the original format avoids a needless re-encode. A JPEG result drops the alpha channel, so any transparent part of the source becomes white.

    Supported inputs and limits

    File countOne image per run
    Input formatsJPEG, PNG or WebP
    CaptionsUp to 120 characters each
One image per run, up to 64 MiB and 40 megapixels, in JPEG, PNG or WebP. Each caption is capped at 120 characters and trimmed to single spaces. Both captions use one text size, which is reduced once if a line would pass the margin, and the result says when that happened. The text is drawn into the pixels of the exported copy, so it cannot be edited afterwards and covers whatever sits underneath. JPEG cannot store transparency, so a transparent source is filled with white. At least one caption is required, and the outline may be set to zero for plain text.

    Why captions carry an outline

A caption sits on top of a picture whose brightness changes from place to place. A plain fill disappears wherever the background happens to match it, so each letter is stroked with a contrasting color first and filled afterwards. The stroke is drawn around the whole glyph, which keeps the letters separate even where they touch the outline of the letter beside them.

Why the two captions share one size

Both captions are measured before anything is drawn. If one of them needs a smaller font to fit the width, that same size is applied to the other, so the pair looks deliberate instead of mismatched. The cost is that a short caption also shrinks when its partner is long; shortening the long side is the way to win the size back.

    Questions about Meme Generator

How is this different from the add text tool?

This page places a matched top and bottom pair with an outline, which is the look a two-line caption needs. The Add Text tool draws one caption on any of nine anchors and offers a panel behind the text instead of an outline.

Can I write only one caption?

Yes. Fill the top or the bottom box and leave the other empty; the empty side is skipped. At least one of the two has to have text, otherwise there is nothing to draw.

Why is the outline not visible?

Either the thickness is set to zero or it matches the text color so the two blend together. Raise the thickness, and pick an outline that contrasts with the text, such as black behind white.

What happens to a very long caption?

It wraps onto more lines, and if the widest line still would not fit, both captions shrink together so they stay matched. A caption that still does not fit is refused, so shorten it rather than fighting the size control.

Does my picture get uploaded to check the text?

No. The picture is decoded and drawn in your browser, the preview is a local image, and nothing is sent to the site. The file stays in memory until you reset the form or close the tab.
