JPEG, PNG or WebP images. All images in one run are converted to the same format.

    PNG output ignores this setting.

JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels use this color. Use a hex value such as #ffffff.

Limits which of the three input formats this run reads. A file of another format is refused with a message instead of being converted.

How to use Image Format Converter

    1. Select your images in the Images box, up to 20 at a time.
    2. Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP in Convert to.
    3. Set the quality if you chose JPEG or WebP, and a background color if you chose JPEG.
    4. Select Convert, then download the ZIP of converted files.

    Example: Image Format Converter

Convert a PNG image to JPEG.

    You add
One 512 by 512 PNG image, Convert to JPEG.
    You get
One JPEG at 512 by 512 pixels, named after the source image with the extension changed to .jpg.

    Options

    Convert to
All images in one run go to the same format. PNG and WebP keep transparency; JPEG cannot, so choose it only for images with no transparent areas.
    Quality for JPEG and WebP
Sets the encoder quality from 0.5 to 1, with 0.9 as the default. PNG output is lossless and ignores this setting entirely.
    Background for JPEG
JPEG cannot store transparency, so any transparent pixel is filled with this color before encoding. Enter a six-digit hex value such as #ffffff. Ignored for PNG and WebP.
    Accept only
In More options, limit the source format when a batch must contain only JPEG, PNG or WebP. The default accepts all three, and the tool checks the file content rather than trusting its name.

    Supported inputs and limits

Input formatsJPEG, PNG and WebP only
Batch sizeUp to 20 images per run
Per image64 MiB each, 40 megapixels each, 128 MiB total
JPEG, PNG and WebP only, and the format is read from the file contents rather than the file name. HEIC, animated GIF, BMP and SVG are refused with a clear message. Limits are 64 MiB per image, 128 MiB in total, 40 megapixels per image and 20 images per run. JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels take the background color and that cannot be undone. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not recover detail that JPEG already discarded, and it usually makes the file bigger. A file that is already in the target format is re-encoded anyway, which loses a little quality for JPEG and WebP. Check the converted images before you delete the originals.

What each format can and cannot keep

The three formats make different trades. JPEG compresses aggressively and stores no transparency, which suits photographs but shows blockiness at low quality settings. PNG stores every pixel exactly and supports partial transparency, which suits screenshots, logos and cut-out backgrounds, but the files are larger. WebP supports transparency and is another option, though older software may not open it. A conversion is not just a name change: a photo moved to PNG keeps the detail that JPEG already lost, and a logo moved to JPEG can gain gray fringes where the transparency was.

    Questions about Image Format Converter

Why is my new PNG bigger than the JPEG I started with?

PNG is lossless and stores every pixel without discarding detail, so photographs usually grow when they move to PNG. If you wanted a smaller file, re-encode the image as JPEG instead.

Can I convert HEIC photos taken on my phone?

No. Browsers do not decode HEIC reliably, so the tool refuses the file rather than producing a broken image. Export the photo as JPEG first.

What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPEG?

They are filled with the Background for JPEG color, white by default. The transparency is gone for good in that file, so keep the PNG or WebP original if you need it.

Can I convert each image to a different format in one run?

No. Convert to applies to the whole batch, so split the images into groups when you need a mix.

Will converting a JPEG to PNG improve the quality?

No. The detail JPEG removed when it was saved is already gone. PNG can only preserve what the JPEG still contains.
