    3. Compare the exported preview with the source before using it.

    Example: PSD Preview Converter

A local worked example using the inputs and settings below for psd preview converter.

    You add
PSD with merged preview: ["rgb.psd (58 bytes)"] Preview format: "png" JPEG quality: ".9"
    You get
    Exported the 3 × 2 merged PSD preview. rgb-merged.png (3 × 2 pixels)

    Options

    Composite format
Only the documented flattened RGB or grayscale composite subset is decoded. Layers, CMYK and embedded profiles are refused.
    PNG or JPEG
PNG preserves the decoded raster without JPEG loss. JPEG uses the entered bounded quality and can change edges or fine text.

    Supported inputs and limits

PSDv1, 8-bit RGB three-channel or grayscale one-channel flattened composites only, raw or PackBits. Up to 64 MiB and 4 megapixels. Refuses PSB, CMYK, 16-bit, ZIP compression, extra channels and every embedded ICC profile. No layer editing, color-managed conversion or guarantee of full Photoshop appearance.

The preview is not a Photoshop reconstruction

The file must contain a supported stored composite. A successful decode does not preserve layers, color management or the complete appearance of an unsupported editing feature. Retain the PSD and compare the preview in a suitable editor before replacing it.

    Questions about PSD Preview Converter

Can I edit Photoshop layers here?

No. Only the supported stored flattened composite is decoded.

    Why are ICC profiles refused?

This bounded converter does not perform color-managed profile conversion.

    Does JPEG preserve transparency?

No. This supported PSD subset has no extra alpha channel, and JPEG is an opaque format.
