HEIC or HEIF photos from an iPhone or camera, up to 20 in one run. Every photo in a run is converted to the same format.

    0.9

Applies to JPEG output only. PNG ignores it.

JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels take this color. Use a hex value such as #ffffff.

How to use HEIC to PNG

    1. Add the HEIC or HEIF photos you want as PNG, up to 20 files in one run.
    2. Leave Convert to on PNG, which is where this page opens. The same list still offers JPEG for a photo that only needs a small file.
    3. Select Convert, wait for the decoder to finish, then download the PNG files or the ZIP for a batch.

    Example: HEIC to PNG

A HEIC photo that has to go into a document or an editor that asks for PNG.

    You add
A 3024 by 4032 HEIC photo. Convert to PNG; the background and quality values do not apply to PNG output.
    You get
A PNG at 3024 by 4032 pixels made from the decoder output, with the input and output sizes reported. The PNG may be larger than the HEIC original.

    Options

    Convert to
PNG is the default because this page is for a lossless container. Both targets stay in the list, so a visitor who really needs JPEG can switch without leaving the page.
    JPEG quality
PNG output ignores this slider, so it does nothing while the target is PNG. It becomes active only when the target is switched to JPEG.
    Background for JPEG
PNG keeps the alpha data the decoder provides, so no background is painted. The value applies only when the target is JPEG.

    Supported inputs and limits

Input formatHEIC and HEIF photos only; other formats are refused
Batch sizeUp to 20 photos per run
Per image64 MiB each, 40 megapixels each, 128 MiB total
PNG saves the browser-rendered picture without JPEG compression and keeps transparency when the decoder provides it. The result reports both file sizes. The WebAssembly libheif decoder downloads when you first convert on this page; later conversions in the same visit reuse it. A run accepts up to 20 photos, 64 MiB each, 128 MiB in total and 40 megapixels per photo. A container with several pictures gives up only its first image. Redrawing drops EXIF, the capture date, GPS location and the original color profile, so wide-gamut colors may look different. A PNG photograph may be larger than its HEIC original.

    Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

What a PNG copy of a phone photo is good for

PNG saves the browser-rendered picture without JPEG compression, so it suits a document that demands PNG or an editing pass where repeated saving should not add more artifacts. It is a poor choice when the only goal is a smaller file, because a PNG photograph may be larger than its HEIC original. This conversion drops camera metadata and the original color profile. JPEG can make a smaller file by discarding some image detail.

    Questions about HEIC to PNG

Why is the PNG bigger than the HEIC photo?

HEIC often compresses photographs more efficiently, while PNG preserves the decoded pixels it is given. The result line reports both sizes so you can compare them.

Does the PNG keep the full color of the photo?

It saves the browser-rendered picture without JPEG compression, but it does not retain the original color profile. Wide-gamut colors may look different in the PNG. Keep the HEIC original for color-sensitive work.

Can this page convert a JPEG or a WebP?

No. This page reads HEIC and HEIF files only, and another format is refused with a message that names what was found. The Image Format Converter handles a file that is already a JPEG, PNG or WebP.

Where does the PNG go after the conversion?

The file is built in the browser tab and offered as a download. It is not uploaded to this site, and closing the tab removes the working copy.

What if the HEIC file contains more than one photo?

The first photo in the container is converted and the result says how many were found. Export the remaining photos from a program that can open every image in the file, then convert each one here.
