How to use PDF Bookmark Editor
- Read the existing hierarchy first if you need a record of it.
- Choose Replace and enter the complete title/page hierarchy, or choose Remove.
- Save the copy, reopen the outline and follow the page destinations.
Example: PDF Bookmark Editor
Create a two-entry outline.
Options
- Bookmark action
- Read exports the supported existing hierarchy as JSON. Replace uses your entire supplied hierarchy. Remove writes a copy with no bookmarks.
- Bookmark hierarchy
- Page numbers start at 1. Put nested entries in children. Replace does not merge with the previous outline, so include every entry you want to keep.
Supported inputs and limits
Where your input is processed
This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.
Navigation changes without moving pages
Bookmarks point to existing pages. They do not reorder, split or rename the pages themselves. A replacement destination shows the whole target page rather than reproducing a previous custom zoom or position. Check the outline and follow each destination in your PDF viewer.
Not every existing action is a page bookmark
Inspection accepts direct local page destinations and local GoTo actions. Named destinations, remote actions and active actions are outside its supported read scope and are refused. Keep the original outline export when it can be read before replacing it.
Questions about PDF Bookmark Editor
Do bookmark names change page headings?
No. They label outline destinations without changing the page text.
Can a bookmark point outside this document?
The entered replacement tree uses page destinations within the uploaded document.
What happens to the old outline on replacement?
The replacement action uses the complete entered tree. Keep the original file if you need its old outline.
