How to use Audio Dynamics Processor

    1. Choose the WAV and set the quiet gate below the material you want to retain.
    2. Set compressor threshold and ratio, then choose attack and release times.
    3. Process, audition quiet passages and loud changes, and review reduction before adding makeup gain.

    Example: Audio Dynamics Processor

Compare a steady tone below the compressor threshold.

    You add
One-second mono WAV at 48 kHz with a 440 Hz sine at amplitude 0.1. Gate: -80 dBFS; compressor threshold: -6 dBFS; ratio: 1; attack: 10 ms; release: 100 ms; makeup: 0 dB.
    You get
The 1:1 compressor adds no compression. The report states the configured gate and envelope behavior; the output stays one second long.

    Options

    Gate threshold
The hard gate acts on quiet material below its level threshold. It does not distinguish a useful quiet sound from background noise.
    Compressor threshold and ratio
Above threshold, the ratio reduces further level growth. A ratio of 1 leaves the compressor at 1:1; it does not disable the separate gate.
    Attack and release
These millisecond times smooth how the level detector follows rising and falling peaks. They affect transients and the way quiet passages recover.
    Makeup gain
This dB gain follows dynamics processing. A positive value raises the requested samples; a global headroom reduction may then scale the whole output.

    Supported inputs and limits

    Selected files128 MiB total
    Supported duration600 seconds
RIFF WAV only: mono/stereo PCM16, PCM24, PCM32 or float32 at 8–96 kHz; up to 128 MiB and 600 seconds. Compressed WAV, extended headers and other containers are refused. Work stays on your device. Linked mono/stereo peak detection, hard gate and hard-knee compressor. It is not a lookahead limiter or a guaranteed true-peak ceiling.

    Attack and release affect transitions

Attack controls how quickly the detector follows a rising level; release controls its return. Very short settings can change the sound of transients and pauses. The linked detector uses the loudest channel so one stereo side does not receive unrelated compression.

    Makeup gain can undo headroom

Makeup gain raises the processed samples after compression. If that requests peaks above sample full scale, the render applies a global headroom reduction. It still does not make the compressor threshold a hard true-peak ceiling: detector smoothing has no lookahead protection, and peaks between stored samples are a separate concern. Check the reported processing and listen to transitions.

    Questions about Audio Dynamics Processor

Will it remove every background noise?

No. A gate reduces quiet sections based on level. Noise mixed with wanted audio can remain.

Does the compressor threshold guarantee a peak ceiling?

No. Attack/release smoothing and makeup gain can produce higher peaks. It has no lookahead limiter.

    Is my input uploaded?

    Nothing is uploaded.
