Up to 24 MiB. Ordinary MPEG Layer III audio with no tag, or an unflagged ID3v2.3/v2.4 tag up to 256 KiB.

Replacement discards all other ID3v2 fields, artwork and any trailing ID3v1 tag. Audio frame bytes stay unchanged.

How to use MP3 ID3 Metadata Editor

    1. Load an MP3 and use Inspect current fields to see the supported text tags.
    2. Choose Replace tag only when you accept removal of artwork and other tag fields.
    3. Enter every text field you want to keep; blank replacements omit that field.
    4. Download the rewritten MP3, open it in your player and check the tag values.

    Example: MP3 ID3 Metadata Editor

Replace a title while deliberately omitting the other supported fields.

    You add
Source: an MP3 with supported MPEG Layer III frames. Action: Replace tag; Title: Demo Track; Artist, Album, Year, Track and Genre: blank.
    You get
The new ID3v2.3 tag contains title Demo Track. The audio frame bytes are retained, while other ID3v2 fields and any trailing ID3v1 tag are removed.

    Options

    Action
Inspect reads supported fields without rewriting the audio file. Replace creates a small new tag from the six supplied fields and discards the remaining tag content.
    Title
Replacement text, up to 500 characters. Blank omits the field.
    Artist
Replacement text, up to 500 characters. Blank omits the field.
    Album
Replacement text, up to 500 characters. Blank omits the field.
    Year
Enter four digits or leave this blank. This is a text tag, not a verification of the recording date.
    Track
Use a track number such as 3 or a number/total pair such as 3/12. A blank value omits the track tag.
    Genre
Replacement text, up to 500 characters. Blank omits the field.

    Supported inputs and limits

One MP3 up to 24 MiB; ID3 tag up to 256 KiB, 256 frames and 500 characters per supplied field. Six text fields only. Rewrite drops other ID3v2 content and trailing ID3v1 tags. Flagged, compressed, encrypted or unsupported tag structures are refused. No cover art editor, audio conversion or metadata preservation beyond the supplied fields.

    Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

Replacement is not a small edit to the existing tag

The replacement workflow reconstructs a tag instead of preserving every old frame. Artwork, comments and unrecognised fields are outside the retained set. Copy the supported text you still need into the form before exporting, and keep the original if other metadata matters.

Audio preservation has a specific meaning

Supported rewriting keeps the MPEG audio frame bytes rather than encoding a new recording. That does not make every MP3 or tag variant editable: flagged, compressed, encrypted and unsupported tag structures are refused. Use inspection first and confirm the downloaded metadata in the application that will consume it.

Questions about MP3 ID3 Metadata Editor

Will album art remain after replacement?

No. Replacement writes only the supplied text fields and removes other tag content.

    Is the audio encoded again?

No. Supported rewriting retains the MPEG audio frame bytes.

Can every MP3 tag be edited?

No. Unsupported flags and structures are refused to avoid an unsafe rewrite.
