How to use Random Team Generator
- Paste one name per line into the name box.
- Choose whether to set the number of teams or the number of people in each team. A team count splits the list as evenly as possible; a team size sets how many teams are made, and every team holds at most that many people.
- Select Make teams, read the groups, then copy the plain list or the table.
Example: Random Team Generator
Split six names into two teams of three.

Why the team sizes come out even
Two ordering steps happen before anyone sees a team. The whole list is shuffled, so the order you typed gives no advantage. Then the shuffled names are dealt out one at a time: team 1, team 2, team 3 and back to team 1, the way a dealer hands cards around a table. Nine names into three teams gives three, three and three; ten names gives four, three and three. No team can finish two people ahead of another, which is the part a hand-made split usually gets wrong.
Questions about Random Team Generator
How random is the split?
The list is shuffled with Fisher-Yates, and each swap takes an unbiased whole number from your browser's secure random source. The shuffled names are then dealt one at a time, so a team-count split comes out within one person of the other teams and a team-size split spreads the names evenly across the teams it created.
What does the size option do when the names do not divide evenly?
It rounds the number of teams up and spreads the names across them, so with 7 names and a size of 3 you get 3 teams of 3, 2 and 2. No team holds more than the size you set, and the difference between the largest and smallest team is never more than one person.
Why are repeated names refused?
A name listed twice would let the same person land in two teams and the result would look like a mistake. Remove the repeated line, or write the two people's names so they are clearly different.
Can I keep some people together or apart?
No. Every split is random. If particular people must be separated, split the list yourself into groups first, generate teams inside each group, and combine the results.
Does the tool keep my list?
No. The names stay in this browser tab and the teams are built on your device, so nothing is stored on a server.
