How to use Wheel Spinner and Random Name Picker
- Type or paste your list, one item per line. It is saved in this browser for your next visit.
- Check the wheel: every entry gets its own slice, and the first twelve are labelled.
- Select Spin wheel and wait for the pointer to stop. Use Sound off for a silent pick or Full screen where available. While the wheel turns, the page asks your browser to keep the screen awake.
- Read the pick under the result heading, or use Copy share link to send the same list to someone else.
Example: Wheel Spinner and Random Name Picker
Pick one name from a short list of four.
Options
- Names or items
- One entry per line, up to 100 lines. Blank lines are ignored, two lines with the same text count as two entries, and a label longer than 16 characters is shortened on the wheel while the full text stays in your list.
- Share link
- Copy share link puts the list after the # in the address. That part is left out of the ordinary page request, but anyone with the link can read the list. Do not put private names in a link you share.
- Sound and display
- You can turn the finish sound off. Full screen appears where supported, and the page requests a screen wake lock while it spins. A refused feature does not stop the wheel or change the pick.
Supported inputs and limits
Where your input is processed
This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.
How the wheel picks a winner
The entry is drawn with the browser's secure random source before the wheel moves, so the pointer position announces a result that already exists rather than deciding it. The spin ends on that slice with a small random offset inside it, which keeps one run from looking exactly like the last. Two entries with the same text occupy two slices, so each one carries its own chance of being drawn.
Why the list travels in the link
A query string or cookie would be sent in the page request. The part after the # is left out of that ordinary request, so the tool uses it to open the same list on another device. The link still contains the full list. Recipients, browser extensions and services that handle the full link may read it, so share it only when you would also hand over the list itself.
Questions about Wheel Spinner and Random Name Picker
Is the spin a fair draw?
The winner is drawn from the browser's secure random source before the wheel moves, and every entry has the same chance of being chosen. Nothing outside the page verifies that, though: the draw is not logged, witnessed or certified. If a result has to be provable, agree the process with the people taking part and keep the wheel visible while it runs.
How long can my list be?
Up to 100 entries, 80 characters each, and 4,000 characters for the whole list. Two lines with the same text are two separate entries, which is a simple way to give one name a double chance.
Where does my list go?
The page saves the list in this browser's local storage so it is there on your next visit. The draw and wheel run here too. If you copy a share link, the link itself contains every entry and anyone with it can read the list. Reset clears the saved copy on this device.
Can the same name come up twice in a row?
Yes. Each spin draws again from the full list, so a name can be picked on consecutive spins. Remove the entry from the list when someone should only win once.
What if my browser blocks sound or screen controls?
The wheel still turns and shows the pick. The finish sound, full screen and screen wake lock work only when your browser and device allow them. Keep the page visible if you need to watch the spin finish.
