Example: Image to Pixel Art
A local worked example using the inputs and settings below for image to pixel art.
Options
- Grid and enlargement
- The longest grid side controls how much detail is sampled. Enlargement repeats those cells with nearest-neighbor edges rather than recovering detail.
- Palette
- Original sampled colors preserve more color variation. A fixed palette maps colors to its finite selection and can merge similar regions.

Where your input is processed
This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.
A square cell is an output choice
The coarse image may lose small text and thin lines. Compare at the intended display size before choosing a grid. The export is a new PNG rather than editable pixel-art layers.
Questions about Image to Pixel Art
Does this draw a new pixel-art scene?
The page samples the image you supply. It does not invent objects or redraw the scene by hand.
What changes when I choose a fixed palette?
Sampled colours are mapped to the nearest supplied palette colour, so subtle shades can merge.
Why does enlargement stay sharp?
Each sampled cell is enlarged without smoothing. This keeps the grid visible, while the detail removed during sampling stays removed.
