A plain number such as 120 or 1.6e-3. A negative value is read as flow in the opposite direction.

Volume flows are cubic metres per time; mass flows are kilograms per time.

Used only when converting between a volume flow and a mass flow, where mass flow is volume flow x this density.

How to use Flow Rate Converter

  1. Enter the flow rate and its source unit.
  2. Choose the destination unit and enter kg/m³ density if switching between mass and volume.
  3. Convert and check the time unit and gallon convention.

Example: Flow Rate Converter

Convert a volume flow to mass flow.

You add
Value: 60 L/min. To: kg/s. Density: 1000 kg/m³.
You get
The result is 1 kg/s.

Options

Fluid density and gallon system
Crossing from volume flow to mass flow uses entered density. Within volume units, distinguish US liquid gallons from imperial gallons.
Decimal places
Review small flow values in the destination volume-per-time unit before choosing 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 decimal places. A rounded zero can hide a nonzero flow.

Supported inputs and limits

Constant-density conversion only. US liquid and imperial gallons are separate choices. No pipe geometry, pressure loss, pump sizing, gas standard-condition adjustment or changing-density model is included. Values accept at most 64 characters, 40 significant digits, 20 fractional places and magnitude 10¹⁸. Scientific notation has at most two exponent digits. Display rounding offers 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 decimal places; small nonzero results stay visible.

Mass flow needs a material assumption

Sixty litres per minute is 0.001 m³/s. Multiplying by a density of 1000 kg/m³ gives 1 kg/s. For gases, use density and volume expressed for compatible pressure and temperature conditions.

Questions about Flow Rate Converter

Can litres per minute become kilograms per second directly?

A density is needed. The tool converts volume per time to mass per time by multiplying by the entered density.

How do I choose a gallon-based flow unit?

The selected unit names US liquid or imperial explicitly. They have different volumes; use the one stated by your source.

Can this size a pump or pipe?

No. Those calculations need operating conditions and system geometry beyond a unit conversion.
