How to use Viscosity Converter
- Enter the viscosity and select its source unit.
- Choose an output unit; enter density in kg/m³ if the quantity type changes.
- Convert and review whether density was used.
Example: Viscosity Converter
Convert dynamic viscosity with a supplied density.
Options
- Fluid density
- Density in kg/m³ is required when crossing between dynamic and kinematic viscosity. It is not used for a scale conversion within the same viscosity type.
- Decimal places
- Very small kinematic values in m²/s need enough displayed places to remain visible. The 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 setting changes rounding without changing the selected viscosity quantity.

Dynamic and kinematic viscosity differ
Kinematic viscosity equals dynamic viscosity divided by density. At 1000 kg/m³, 1 cP gives 1 cSt. A different density changes that relationship, and temperature can change both properties; enter compatible measurements.
Questions about Viscosity Converter
Can I convert cP to cSt without density?
No. They describe different quantities. The page requires density for that conversion rather than assuming a liquid.
What unit should the density use?
Enter kilograms per cubic metre. Convert a density quoted in g/cm³ or another unit before using it here.
Will this tell me a fluid’s viscosity at another temperature?
No. It uses your entered value and density. Both should describe the same material conditions.
