How to use Density Converter
- Enter a nonnegative mass-density value.
- Choose the mass-per-volume input and output units.
- Convert and check the unit before copying the result.
Example: Density Converter
Convert one gram per cubic centimetre.
Options
- Density unit
- Each selected unit expresses mass per volume. It changes the scale of an entered density; it does not determine the mass of an object without its volume.
- Decimal places
- Density can change scale sharply between g/cm³ and kg/m³. The 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 output places control display rounding while the chosen density unit remains explicit.

Both numerator and denominator matter
A cubic centimetre is one millionth of a cubic metre, and a gram is one thousandth of a kilogram. Together they make 1 g/cm³ equal to 1000 kg/m³. The result retains the material and measurement conditions supplied by the source.
Questions about Density Converter
Is density the same as specific gravity?
No. Specific gravity is a ratio to a named reference density and has no unit. This page converts mass per volume.
Does converting change the material’s temperature?
No. Use a value measured or specified at the conditions you need. Conversion changes the unit only.
Why does one g/cm³ become one thousand kg/m³?
A cubic metre contains one million cubic centimetres, while one kilogram contains one thousand grams. Their ratio gives the factor.
