How to use Area Converter

  1. Enter the Value in the unit you have, for example 1.
  2. Choose Convert from, such as International acres (ac).
  3. Choose Convert to, such as Square feet (ft²).
  4. Leave Decimal places at 6, or pick another precision.
  5. The Result and Factor lines update as you change the values.

Example: Area Converter

Convert hectares to square meters.

You add
Value: 2.5. Convert from: Hectares (ha). Convert to: Square meters (m2). Decimal places: 2.
You get
The result reads 2.5 ha = 25000 m2, and the summary in square meters repeats 25000 m2.

Options

Convert to
Hectares and international acres are separate named units and are never swapped for each other. Square inches, feet, yards and miles use the international definitions, not the older US survey-foot variants.
Decimal places
Sets display rounding to 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 places for fractional results. A whole-number result ignores the setting and keeps every digit, and a small nonzero result is never printed as zero.

Supported inputs and limits

Supported units are square millimeters, centimeters, meters and kilometers, hectares, and international square inches, feet, yards, miles and acres. The entered value is capped at 1 quadrillion in the selected unit. Regional land units such as the bigha, the rai or the tsubo are not included, and a hectare is not the same as an acre. Conversion runs through square meters using exact decimal factors, so each imperial area is its length factor squared rather than a rounded length multiplied by itself.

Land units that look alike and are not

Different countries measure land with units that share names but not sizes. A hectare is a metric area of 10,000 square meters. An acre is 43,560 square feet, defined from the international foot. The tool keeps each name on the controls and the result so one cannot quietly become the other, and it leaves regional units out rather than guessing a size.

Questions about Area Converter

Why is a hectare not the same as an acre?

A hectare is 10,000 square meters. An international acre is 43,560 square feet, about 4,046.856422 square meters, so an acre is a little under half a hectare.

Why is the area factor the length factor squared?

Area scales in two directions. One meter is 100 centimeters, so one square meter is 100 times 100, or 10,000 square centimeters. The tool stores squared factors directly instead of multiplying a rounded length.

Which acre does the tool use?

The international acre, defined as 43,560 international square feet. Acres based on the older US survey foot are a different size and are not silently substituted.

Can I convert a room measured in feet to square meters?

Yes. Enter the value in Square feet (ft²), choose Square meters (m²), and raise Decimal places if you need a tighter land or floor figure.

Can a small result show as zero?

No. If a nonzero result would round to zero at your chosen precision, the tool prints the value in full instead, so a small conversion never reads as 0.
