How to use Scale Drawing Calculator
- Choose whether the entered length is real or on the drawing.
- Enter the drawing:real ratio, such as 1:50 or 2:1.
- Select input and output length units.
- Read the conversion and verify any physical print scaling separately.
Example: Scale Drawing Calculator
Calculate a drawing length at one to fifty.
Options
- Direction
- Real length to drawing multiplies by drawing part divided by real part. Drawing length to real uses the inverse.
- Ratio and units
- The a:b ratio always means drawing:real in the same physical unit. Input and output units can differ because unit conversion is handled separately.

Where your input is processed
This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.
Separate scale from a unit conversion
Convert the real measurement to a common unit, then apply the scale. A 2 m real length is 200 cm; at 1:50 it becomes 4 cm on the drawing. The ratio itself is dimensionless.
Printing can change the physical result
The calculated length assumes the drawing is reproduced at its intended scale. Fit-to-page, printer margins or image resizing can change that. Measure a known reference on the actual print before using the drawing as a physical template.
Questions about Scale Drawing Calculator
How is the ratio read?
As drawing length to real length. At 1:50, one unit on the drawing represents fifty of the same unit in reality.
Can I use an enlargement such as 2:1?
Yes. With drawing:real equal to 2:1, the drawing length is twice the real length before output-unit conversion.
Does the answer prove my printout is to scale?
No. Verify printer settings and measure a known reference on the physical print. The calculation cannot inspect paper scaling.
