Supported inputs and limits
Where your input is processed
This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.
Stored text needs a reading-order check
Text extraction uses stored glyph positions and size-based grouping. It does not recognize text in scanned images or recover the original document structure. Columns, headers and unusual text placement can produce a misleading order even when all words were extracted. Compare the draft with the rendered PDF before editing or publishing it.
Layout and images are not reconstructed
The output is a text draft, with heuristic headings and lists. It does not carry the source page design, images, tables or complete semantic structure. Keep the PDF as the reference and correct inferred headings and list boundaries in the exported document.
Questions about PDF to Markdown
Can a scanned PDF be converted to editable text?
No. It needs a readable text layer; OCR is not included.
Will tables retain their columns?
No reliable table reconstruction is promised. Review and rebuild tables when needed.
How are headings detected?
The converter uses bounded text geometry and font-size heuristics, so the result needs review.
