How to use Business Day Calculator

  1. Choose Count workdays between dates or Add or subtract workdays under Calculation.
  2. Enter the Start date, plus the End date when you are counting.
  3. Tick the weekdays that act as a weekend. Saturday and Sunday are ticked by default.
  4. Paste any holiday dates into Holiday dates, separated by commas, spaces or new lines.
  5. The workday count updates as you change the dates.

Example: Business Day Calculator

Count the working days in a five-day week that contains one holiday.

You add
Calculation: Count workdays between dates; Start date 2026-01-05; End date 2026-01-09; Saturday and Sunday ticked as the weekend; Include start date and Include end date both on; Holiday dates: 2026-01-07.
You get
4 workdays. The range Monday to Friday holds five weekdays, and the entered holiday on Wednesday 7 January removes one of them.

Options

Include start date when counting and Include end date when counting
Both are on by default, so Monday to Friday counts as five workdays. Turn the start date off when the count should begin the following day.
Weekday checkboxes
Each named weekday can be marked as a weekend. Tick Friday and Saturday for a Sunday-to-Thursday week, or tick Sunday alone for a six-day week.
Workdays to add (for shift)
The first step lands after the start date, so adding 5 workdays to Monday 5 January 2026 gives Monday 12 January. A negative number moves backward.
Holiday dates
Plain YYYY-MM-DD dates in any common separator. A repeated date counts once, and a holiday on a weekend day changes nothing.

Supported inputs and limits

Dates run from 1900 to 2100, and one count covers at most 100 years. You enter the holidays yourself, so there is no built-in national or religious calendar, and the limit is 200 dates. A calendar with every weekday marked as a weekend is refused, and a workday shift accepts at most 10,000 workdays.

Why you enter the holidays instead of picking a country

Public holidays depend on the country, the region, the employer and the year, and some move with a lunar calendar. A fixed list would be wrong for most visitors, so the tool applies exactly the dates you type. A holiday is matched by date, so the same date listed twice removes only one day, and a holiday on a weekend day changes nothing.

Where counting starts and ends

For a date range, the two endpoint options decide whether the first and last dates count. Both start switched on, so Monday to Friday reads as five workdays before any holiday is removed. When you add workdays instead, counting begins the day after the start date, so five workdays from a Monday land on the following Monday.

Questions about Business Day Calculator

Does the tool know my country's public holidays?

No. You enter the holiday dates by hand, and the tool removes exactly the dates you supply.

Why does adding 5 workdays to Monday land on the next Monday?

The start date is not one of the five steps. Monday to Friday takes steps one to five, and the next workday after that is the following Monday.

What happens when a holiday falls on a Saturday?

Nothing changes, because Saturday is already excluded as a weekend. A date entered twice is also counted once.

Can I use a Sunday-to-Thursday work week?

Yes. Untick Saturday and Sunday, then tick Friday and Saturday as the weekend. The tool judges each weekday only from the boxes you set.

Is the end date part of the count?

By default both the start and the end date count, so a Monday-to-Friday range gives five workdays. Clear either box to shorten the range.
