Business days depend on the working calendar you choose. Business Day Calculator lets you select weekend days and supply holiday dates, so a result can match a particular work pattern rather than silently assuming every location uses the same calendar.

Establish the calendar before counting

For an illustrative Monday-through-Friday range from January 5 to January 9, 2026, there are five weekdays when both endpoints count. Mark Saturday and Sunday as weekends and enter January 7 as an excluded holiday. The result becomes four workdays.

Date Selected calendar rule Counted?
Monday, January 5 Included start day Yes
Tuesday, January 6 Ordinary workday Yes
Wednesday, January 7 Entered holiday No
Thursday, January 8 Ordinary workday Yes
Friday, January 9 Included end day Yes

Select count workdays between dates, enter the two dates, and inspect both inclusion checkboxes. Then review every weekend checkbox. If the workplace closes on Friday and Saturday, use those choices instead of keeping the Saturday-and-Sunday default.

Holiday dates must come from the calendar relevant to your task. The tool does not contain a built-in national or religious holiday database. Remove any sample holiday still present in the field and enter your actual exclusions deliberately.

Check endpoint rules with a visible example

Counting the start day, counting the end day and adding a number of workdays are different conventions. Compare a short range manually before using a long result in a schedule. If the start itself is a weekend or holiday, it is not a workday merely because an inclusion box is checked.

Date Difference Calculator shows the calendar span independently. Its simple weekday option cannot replace a custom weekend-and-holiday calculation.

Use Add or Subtract Dates when the requested interval is ordinary calendar days. Its month and day shifts do not remove weekends, which is important when comparing a result with a workday shift.

Verify a shifted workday date

Switch the business-day tool to add or subtract workdays only when that is the question you need answered. Read the resulting date and inspect the excluded days around it. A calendar that marks every weekday as a weekend is refused because it leaves no valid workdays to reach.

The tool supports dates from 1900 through 2100, up to 200 entered holiday dates and bounded counting or shifting ranges. These limits concern the calculation, not whether your calendar accurately represents a real organization.

Record the chosen weekend, holiday list and endpoint policy beside the answer. If a schedule changes later, retaining those inputs makes it possible to see whether the date moved because of new exclusions or a different counting rule.
