For an image watermark. PNG only, up to 12 MB and 20 megapixels. Transparent PNG backgrounds work well.

Used for a text watermark, for example DRAFT or a company name.

Leave empty for every page. Example: 2-6

0.15 is a light mark. 1 makes the watermark fully solid.

0 is horizontal. 45 runs up from left to right.

Height of the text, or the width of the image on each page.

Draws the mark in a grid instead of once, which is harder to crop out and busier to read.

How to use Add Watermark to PDF

      1. Add one PDF in the PDF file field.
      2. Choose Text or PNG image, then set the mark itself.
      3. Pick the pages to mark, then set opacity, angle, size and position.
      4. Select Add the watermark and download the -watermarked.pdf file.

      Example: Add Watermark to PDF

Mark the last two pages of a three-page PDF.

      You add
A three-page PDF. Watermark type: Text. Watermark text: DRAFT. Pages to mark: 2-3. Opacity: 0.2. Angle: 45 degrees. Size: 40 points. Position: Center.
      You get
The result reports Pages marked: 2 and downloads pdf-3page-watermarked.pdf. Page 1 keeps no mark because it sits outside the page range.

      Options

      Watermark text
Up to 200 characters in a PDF standard font, covering Latin letters, digits and common accents. Other writing systems need a PNG watermark.
      Opacity
0.15 is a light mark that still reads on a printout. 1 is solid and hides what is underneath.
      Size in points
For text this is the height of the letters. For an image it is the width on the page.
      Repeat across the page
Draws the mark in a grid instead of once, which is harder to crop out and busier to read. Each page is capped at 48 marks.

      Supported inputs and limits

File sizeOne PDF per run, up to 100 MiB
Pages per PDFUp to 1,000 pages
Watermark textUp to 200 characters; PNG images up to 64 MiB
One PDF per run, up to 100 MiB and 1,000 pages. A text mark is limited to 200 characters in a PDF standard font, so other scripts are refused; a PNG image watermark covers those, up to 64 MiB and 20 megapixels, with a transparent background for best results. Tiling is capped at 48 marks per page. A mark larger than the page is scaled down to fit, and the result says so. A watermark is a visible mark, not access control: it does not stop printing, copying or text selection.

How the settings change the mark

Opacity sets how much of the page shows through: 0.02 is a faint tint that a photocopy may lose, and 1 is solid. An angle of 0 reads horizontally, while 45 or -45 crosses the text and is harder to crop out. Size runs from an 8-point footer mark to a 400-point mark that fills most of the page width, and a mark larger than the page is scaled to fit. A corner position keeps the body clear, while the center survives a narrow crop. Tiling draws a grid instead, which is harder to remove and busier to read.

Questions about Add Watermark to PDF

Does a watermark stop people from copying my file?

No. It shows that a copy is a draft, a sample or a duplicate. It cannot prevent printing, copying or editing, so do not use it in place of permissions.

Why was my JPEG or WebP logo refused?

The image watermark embeds PNG only. Save the logo as a PNG, ideally with a transparent background, then select it again.

Why is my watermark text rejected?

The mark uses a standard PDF font, which covers Latin letters, digits and common accents. Text in another writing system is refused instead of printed as blank boxes; use a PNG image for that.

Why is my watermark smaller than the size I set?

A mark larger than the page is scaled down so you never see only a fragment. The result names the pages where that happened.
