How to use vCard QR Code

  1. Enter a given name and, if useful, a family name.
  2. Add the phone numbers, email, organization, website or work address you want to share.
  3. Choose PNG or SVG and the size needed for your card or screen.
  4. The code updates as you change the fields. Scan the download and check every contact field.

Example: vCard QR Code

Add a contact code to a printed business card.

You add
Given name Ada; family name Lovelace; email [email protected]; PNG at 512 pixels.
You get
A contact-qr-code.png image containing vCard 3.0 records for Ada Lovelace and [email protected], ready to scan and verify in a phone's contacts app.

Options

Given and family name
The page writes both a display name and separate name parts in the vCard. A family name is optional for a single-name contact.
Mobile and work phone
Use the matching field for each number. A scanner may label or format the saved numbers differently.
Work address
Stored as one work address label, not split into street, city and postal-code fields. Check how your phone imports it.

Supported inputs and limits

The image is a static vCard 3.0 record. Anyone with the QR image can read the contact details, and changing a phone number requires a new code. The tool does not verify a number, email address or website. Long contact details can exceed the QR payload limit at higher error correction settings. Scanners differ in how they import address labels and phone types, so test the downloaded image with the contact app you expect people to use. The image is built in this browser without an upload.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

Check the scan before sharing

The tool builds a vCard 3.0 text record and draws that record into a QR image. Names, numbers and email addresses can fit in one code, but the record is only as accurate as the details entered. A contact app may format numbers or address labels in its own way. Scan the final downloaded image on a phone, open the proposed contact, and compare its fields with the original details before putting the image on a printed card.

Questions about vCard QR Code

Does scanning save the contact automatically?

The phone's scanner decides what to show. Many phones offer to add the contact, but you should scan-test the image and check the saved fields before printing it.

Can I change the contact after printing?

No. The details are stored in the QR pattern. Make and print a new code when they change.

Is a family name required?

No. Enter the person's given name. The code still includes the required vCard name records even when the family name is blank.

Can I include both a mobile and a work number?

Yes. Enter each in its own field. The code labels one as mobile and the other as work, though contact apps may display them differently.
