How to use QR Code Generator

  1. Choose text, Wi-Fi network or contact card under QR code for.
  2. Enter the details for that choice. A Wi-Fi code includes the network password when one is needed.
  3. Choose the format, error correction, image size and quiet zone.
  4. Set the colors if you need something other than black on white.
  5. The code updates as you change the fields. Download and scan-test it at print size.

Example: QR Code Generator

Make a QR code for https://usefreetools.net at 256 pixels.

You add
Text or web address https://usefreetools.net, Download format PNG image, error correction Medium, image size 256 pixels.
You get
A file named qr-code.png at 256 by 256 pixels. Scan-test the download at the size you will print it.

Options

Error correction
Higher levels survive more damage but hold less text: Low recovers 7%, Medium 15%, Quartile 25% and High 30%.
Image size in pixels
The tool refuses any size smaller than the module grid plus the quiet zone. That check is about drawing room only, so still scan-test the download at the size you will use.
Quiet zone in modules
The empty border around the code. Four modules is the usual minimum.
Dark color and Light color
Three or six digit hex values that must differ. Keep the dark color darker than the light one.

Supported inputs and limits

Static codes store the text directly. This tool adds no redirect, so the destination cannot be changed after printing and the pattern carries no usage data. No logo overlay and no bulk list mode. Only PNG and SVG are produced. The byte capacity is about 2,953 at Low, 2,331 at Medium, 1,663 at Quartile and 1,273 at High; image size runs 64 to 2,048 pixels and the quiet zone 0 to 16 modules. The page the code points to may still track visits on its own. Scan-test the download at the final size before ordering a print run.

Why the module count sets the smallest size

A QR code is a grid of modules, not a picture of text. This URL needs a 25 by 25 grid at Medium error correction, while long content pushes the grid to 57 or 177 modules across. Each module needs whole camera pixels and the quiet zone must stay empty, so the tool checks that the requested image size can hold the grid plus the quiet zone and reports the smallest usable size when it cannot. The size field starts at 64 pixels, which is roomy for a 25 module code and tight for a 177 module one, so longer payloads need a larger image and a scan test at the size you will print.

Questions about QR Code Generator

Can I change the destination after printing?

No. A static code holds the destination inside the pattern, so a repointable code needs a redirect service, which this tool does not provide.

How much text fits in one QR code?

About 2,953 bytes at Low, 2,331 at Medium, 1,663 at Quartile and 1,273 at High. The tool counts bytes, so emoji cost more than plain letters.

Why was my image size rejected?

This URL needs a 25 by 25 module grid at Medium. The grid itself needs 33 pixels with the quiet zone, and the size field accepts a minimum of 64 pixels, so a request below 64 is rejected.

Can I add a logo in the middle?

No. The generator does not overlay images, and a covered code needs the High level plus a tested scan at print size.
