How to use Unit Price Comparison

  1. Enter the price and quantity of the first pack.
  2. Enter the second pack using a compatible unit.
  3. Compare normalized unit prices and the stated difference.

Example: Unit Price Comparison

Pack A costs 6 for 500 g; Pack B costs 10 for 1 kg.

You add
Pack A costs 6 for 500 g; Pack B costs 10 for 1 kg.
You get
A costs 12.00 per kg and B costs 10.00 per kg. B has the lower unit price.

Supported inputs and limits

Compare only two packs within one dimension: mass, liquid volume or count. Supported customary units use avoirdupois ounces/pounds and US liquid fluid ounces. Quantities must be positive. Product quality, waste, discounts and tax are not inferred. Enter plain decimals with at most 64 characters, 25 digits and 12 fractional places. Monetary inputs are limited to 10^12. Very small or large nonzero amounts use scientific notation. Use one currency throughout; no exchange rates, taxes or fees are added unless you enter them.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

Normalize quantity before dividing

Both packs are converted to the same base quantity. Each price is divided by that quantity, so a larger pack can still have the higher unit price.

Questions about Unit Price Comparison

Can I compare grams with millilitres?

No. Mass and volume need a product density to relate them. This tool compares compatible quantities only.

Which fluid ounce is used?

US liquid fluid ounce. It is distinct from an avoirdupois mass ounce and an imperial fluid ounce.

Does the cheaper unit price always mean a better purchase?

No. Usable quantity, freshness, quality and your needs can change the practical decision.
