Why two 20% discounts are not 40% off
Each discount is taken from what remains, not from the original price. A 250 item loses 50 in the first round and 40 in the second, because the second 20% is charged on 200. The customer pays 160, which is 64% of 250, so the total reduction is 36%.
Questions about Discount Calculator
Should tax be worked out before or after the discount?
The default applies tax to the discounted price. Rules differ by place, so check how the tax is worked out on your receipt, and switch the checkbox off when the base is the original price.
Can I stack two discounts?
Not in one run. Two 20% discounts on a 250 item leave 160, which is 36% off and not 40%.
Why is the amount saved the same as the discount amount?
Savings counts the discount only. Tax changes the final price but is not money you keep.
Does it handle a fixed money-off coupon?
No, percentages only. Subtract a fixed coupon from the calculated price yourself.
