Up to 200,000 characters, 1,000 ordered cues and 2,000 characters per cue. Load this source into the editor below to change individual text and times.

Positive delays every cue; negative moves every cue earlier. No negative time is clamped or silently removed.

Required for rich markup, WebVTT settings/metadata and ASS styles/effects. The cue editor retains the discard report. This does not detect alignment with media automatically.

Example: Subtitle Editor and Sync Shifter

Move captions half a second later.

You add
Input: SRT; Output: SRT; Global shift: 0.5 seconds; loss permission: off. Paste: 1 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:02,000 Hello.
You get
The exported cue runs from 00:00:01,500 to 00:00:02,500 and still reads Hello.

Options

Global shift (seconds)
Seconds are added to every exported start and end. Positive delays the subtitles; negative advances them. The default 1.5 is a starting value, not a measured correction.

Supported inputs and limits

Up to 200,000 source characters, 1,000 ordered cues and 2,000 characters per cue. Change individual text and times, then apply a shift within ±86,400 seconds. Negative or invalid ranges are refused; cues are not cropped or silently removed. Overlaps and permitted feature losses are reported. No automatic media synchronization.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

Delay and advance have opposite signs

A positive global shift adds time to both cue boundaries. A negative shift moves cues earlier. If any resulting start would be negative, the tool refuses the job rather than dropping that cue or silently placing it at zero. Use small shifts and compare a known spoken moment in your player.

A global offset cannot repair growing drift

One offset moves every cue equally. If captions line up near the start but drift later, the source may have a different time basis. This editor does not discover that relationship automatically. Check the media and edit the affected timings; format conversion and loss permission do not solve synchronisation.

Questions about Subtitle Editor and Sync Shifter

Does a shift remove cues before zero?

No. A shift producing invalid negative timing is refused.

Are overlapping subtitles always an error?

No. Overlaps can be intentional; inspect them in your player.

Does the page find the right offset from a video?

No. You enter the offset after comparing your subtitles with the media.
