Generate output controls

An A1 cell or rectangular range, such as A2:A10. Sheet names and absolute references are supported.

A text criterion such as Paid, >=10 or <>Closed. Spreadsheet wildcard syntax is kept as typed and safely quoted.

Optional for SUMIFS and COUNTIFS. Clear this range to use only the first condition.

The lookup searches the first column of this range for an exact match.

Function names stay English. Excel and Google Sheets may use a different separator or translated function names for your locale.

How to use Spreadsheet Formula Generator

  1. Choose the formula operation.
  2. Enter the visible ranges, conditions or lookup fields.
  3. Copy the English formula and check references and the argument separator in your sheet.

Example: Spreadsheet Formula Generator

Generate a simple column sum.

You add
Template: SUM; range: A2:A10; argument separator: comma.
You get
The generated formula is exactly =SUM(A2:A10).

Options

Formula template
Choose the supported task first; only its relevant ranges and criteria affect the generated formula. VLOOKUP searches the first table column for an exact match.
Separator and locale
Choose comma or semicolon for arguments. Function names stay English, so a spreadsheet locale that translates function names may need an application-specific adjustment.
Ranges and criteria
Use supported A1 references and ranges. Criteria are safely quoted while spreadsheet wildcard syntax remains as entered. The tool does not check whether the referenced cells contain suitable data.

Supported inputs and limits

Fixed templates with validated A1 references; no natural-language AI, workbook access or formula evaluation. English function names and the chosen argument separator are used. Available functions can depend on your spreadsheet version. The visible operations are SUM, SUMIF, SUMIFS, COUNTIF, COUNTIFS, exact-match VLOOKUP and a numeric IF comparison. The interface supports one sum range and up to two criteria pairs. No XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH or arbitrary formula parsing.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

A formula is generated without opening a workbook

The result is formula text. No cell values are read or calculated, and the tool cannot verify the destination workbook layout. Paste into a small test range and check references before filling a whole column.

Range relationships affect the result

Conditional-sum and count templates need compatible ranges. VLOOKUP depends on the selected column index within its table. The form checks supported structural rules, but a syntactically valid formula can still answer the wrong question if the ranges or criterion do not match the intended data.

Questions about Spreadsheet Formula Generator

Does this calculate my sheet?

No. It produces formula text from the values and references you enter.

Why might my app reject a comma?

Some locales use a semicolon for arguments or translated function names. Match the output to your spreadsheet settings.

Can a formula use another sheet?

Use the documented A1 reference form. Unsupported reference syntax is refused rather than guessed.
