How to use Social Post Length Checker
- Paste or type your draft in Post draft.
- Choose the X or LinkedIn guide, or enter your own character limit.
- Read the code-point count, words, links and remaining room.

Supported inputs and limits
Where your input is processed
This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.
Platform limits are moving targets
X documents a typical 280-character standard post and separate longer Premium posts. LinkedIn documents a 3,000-character post limit. The local count is intentionally simpler than either platform's composer, particularly for links and emoji. Use the preset to draft, then rely on the composer for the final acceptance check.
Questions about Social Post Length Checker
Why might X show a different count?
X applies its own weighting and link handling. This tool shows a transparent Unicode code-point count, so treat the X preset as a planning guide.
Does the checker post my draft?
No. It reads text in your browser and returns a count and optional shorter suggestion for you to review.
Can I use a platform that is not listed?
Yes. Select Custom limit and enter the current limit shown by that platform.
Will trimming keep every hashtag and link?
No. The suggestion cuts near a word boundary when possible. Read it before using it, because the removed text may matter.
