How to use Ad Copy Length Checker

  1. Enter one responsive search ad headline or description per line.
  2. Run the counts and inspect the remaining space for each field.
  3. Revise over-limit text, then confirm the actual ad in Google Ads.

Example: Ad Copy Length Checker

Count a headline that is one character too long.

You add
Headlines: 1234567890123456789012345678901. Descriptions: leave blank.
You get
The ASCII headline count is 31 against the 30-character estimate, with -1 remaining and an over-limit finding.

Supported inputs and limits

Google responsive search ad guidance checked 3 October 2026: 30 per headline, 90 per description, up to 15/four entered lines. Double-width estimate uses Unicode 17 W/F ranges. Emoji, combining sequences and other non-ASCII text need confirmation in Google Ads. No ad acceptance, policy validation, required field-count check or universal platform support.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

Length is one part of ad acceptance

A line can fit its character limit while failing an account, format or content policy. This checker does not assess landing pages, required field counts, claims or delivery. It is scoped to responsive search ad headline and description lengths rather than every advertising format.

Non-ASCII counting needs platform confirmation

The estimate uses stored Unicode wide/fullwidth ranges and counts those characters as two. Emoji sequences and combining marks can behave differently in a platform’s own counter. Treat non-ASCII results as a drafting aid and check the real editing interface before submitting an ad.
