Supported inputs and limits

Monthly compounding at a constant entered nominal rate from 0 to 100%, for 1 to 1,200 months. The suggested deposit rounds upward to cents. A target reached by the existing balance needs no contribution. Enter plain decimals with at most 64 characters, 25 digits and 12 fractional places. Monetary inputs are limited to 10^12. Very small or large nonzero amounts use scientific notation. Use one currency throughout; no exchange rates, taxes or fees are added unless you enter them.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

Monthly deposits and monthly growth

The balance grows at the annual rate divided by twelve each month. The calculation solves for a constant deposit, so changing rates, withdrawals and irregular contributions need a different model.

Questions about Savings Goal Calculator

Why does deposit timing change the amount?

A deposit at the beginning of the month earns one more month of interest than an end-of-month deposit in this model.

What rate should I enter?

Enter your own nominal annual assumption. The tool does not retrieve a bank rate or guarantee future interest.

What if I already have enough saved?

The contribution is zero when the entered starting balance and its modeled growth reach the target.
