How to use Pomodoro Timer

  1. Set the focus length, the break length and how many focus sessions the set should run.
  2. Choose whether each break and focus session starts on its own, and whether a short beep marks the end of a session.
  3. Select Start focus session, then use the same button to pause and resume. Reset returns the set to the first focus session.

Example: Pomodoro Timer

Run a set of four 25-minute focus sessions with 5-minute breaks.

You add
Focus length: 25 minutes. Break length: 5 minutes. Focus sessions: 4. End sound: on. Auto start: on.
You get
The panel counts down 00:25:00 for focus 1 of 4, then 00:05:00 for the break, then focus 2 of 4. The result panel reports the state, the session number and the time left.

Options

Focus and break length
Each focus session and each break has its own length. The set alternates focus, break, focus until the chosen number of focus sessions is done, and the last focus session has no break after it.
Auto start
With auto start on, the next break or focus session begins the moment the previous one ends. With it off, the timer waits paused at the start of the next session until you resume.
End sound
A short beep plays when a session or the set ends. Browsers only allow page sound after you have interacted with the page, and some devices mute it, so the display and the state line always show the result.

Supported inputs and limits

Focus sessions run from 1 to 180 minutes, breaks from 1 to 60 minutes, and a set holds 1 to 12 focus sessions. The remaining time is worked out from your device clock, so the display catches up when you return to the page. A background tab or a sleeping screen can delay the display update, the beep and the switch to the next session until the page runs again. The page sends no browser notification: the display and the beep are the only signals, and the beep plays only while the page is open and the browser allows sound. Reset clears the current position and returns to the first focus session.

Why the set ends on a focus session

The last focus session in a set has no break after it, because the usual flow is to stop after the work. If you want a break there too, run a second set, or set the session count one lower and start a fresh set when you come back. The panel always names the session it is counting, so the sequence stays visible.

Questions about Pomodoro Timer

Does the count keep running in a background tab?

The time is worked out from the moment the session should end, so the count itself does not drift. A hidden tab, a sleeping screen or a slowed browser can delay the display update, the beep and the switch to the next session until the page runs again, so what you see may be older than the clock.

Will I get a notification when a session ends?

No. The page shows the state and can beep, but it does not send browser notifications or alarms. Keep the page open and the sound on if you want the beep.

What happens when auto start is off?

The timer pauses at the start of the next session. The state line names the session that is waiting, and the same button resumes it.

Can I use a different rhythm, such as 50 minutes of focus with a 10-minute break?

Yes. Set any focus length from 1 to 180 minutes and any break length from 1 to 60 minutes, and the timer alternates them in that order.
