Supported inputs and limits

Billable hours must be positive and at most 168 per week; working weeks must be positive and at most 52. The target is gross income before personal taxes. Unpaid time only affects the calculation through your billable-hour estimate. Enter plain decimals with at most 64 characters, 25 digits and 12 fractional places. Monetary inputs are limited to 10^12. Very small or large nonzero amounts use scientific notation. Use one currency throughout; no exchange rates, taxes or fees are added unless you enter them.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

The denominator is paid time

Annual billable hours equal weekly billable hours multiplied by working weeks. Target hourly revenue equals gross income plus annual costs, divided by that time.

Questions about Freelance Rate Calculator

Should I enter every hour I work?

Enter the hours you expect to invoice. Administration, sales and unpaid revisions should not be counted as billable unless your arrangement pays for them.

Does the rate include my taxes?

No tax rate is applied. Set a gross income target that reflects your own planning needs.

Is this a market price recommendation?

No. It divides your entered annual target by expected billable time. Demand, experience and contract terms are separate decisions.
