A plain number such as 2500 or 1.6e-3. A negative value is read as current in the opposite direction.

How to use Electric Current Converter

  1. Enter the current value.
  2. Select the input and output current scales.
  3. Convert and copy the result including its prefix.

Example: Electric Current Converter

Convert a milliampere reading.

You add
Value: 2500. From: mA. To: A.
You get
2500 mA = 2.5 A.

Options

Current sign and prefix
The sign can describe your source direction convention. Milli-, micro- and kilo- change the scale of amperes without changing that convention.
Decimal places
When current is expressed in amperes instead of milliamperes or microamperes, fractional digits matter. Choose 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 output places and keep the destination prefix alongside the number.

Supported inputs and limits

Prefix scaling only. It does not calculate current from voltage, convert AC peak to RMS, or determine a safe circuit rating. Signs and any source measurement convention remain yours. Values accept at most 64 characters, 40 significant digits, 20 fractional places and magnitude 10¹⁸. Scientific notation has at most two exponent digits. Display rounding offers 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 decimal places; small nonzero results stay visible.

Retain the measurement convention

The example converts 2500 mA to 2.5 A. Keep any DC, RMS or peak label supplied with the original measurement: a unit conversion does not change between those measurement types.

Questions about Electric Current Converter

Does this convert peak current to RMS?

No. Peak and RMS are measurement conventions. Scaling the unit leaves that convention unchanged.

How many milliamperes are in one ampere?

One ampere is one thousand milliamperes. The prefix milli means one thousandth.

Can the current be negative?

Yes. A signed current can represent direction under the circuit’s chosen reference.
