Dimensions
Operation

Two or three Cartesian components separated by commas or spaces. Use plain decimals.

How to use Vector Calculator

  1. Choose the dimension or operation as shown.
  2. Enter both vectors in the same Cartesian coordinate system.
  3. Calculate and review the scalar, vector and angle outputs.

Example: Vector Calculator

Compare two perpendicular unit vectors.

You add
A: 1, 0, 0. B: 0, 1, 0.
You get
The dot product is 0, the cross product A × B is 0, 0, 1 and the angle is 90°.

Supported inputs and limits

Two or three finite Cartesian components per vector. Cross product needs three dimensions. A zero vector has no defined direction; angle and projection onto zero require a useful refusal. Floating-point rounding can affect results. Each vector accepts at most 200 characters and component magnitude 10¹². Enter plain decimals with at most 60 characters, 40 digits and 20 fractional places per number; exponent notation is not accepted.

Where your input is processed

This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.

Use the same coordinate frame

Dot products, angles and projections assume compatible components in a common Cartesian frame. Unit conversion or coordinate-frame transformation is outside this page.

Questions about Vector Calculator

Does the order of a cross product matter?

Yes. Reversing A and B reverses the cross product direction. The page names the order in the result.

Can a zero vector have an angle?

Its direction is undefined. The tool refuses an angle that requires a zero vector’s direction.

What does projection onto B mean?

It is the component of A in B’s direction. B must be nonzero to define that direction.
