Analyze search export controls

Drop your CSV file here

or choose one from your device

One UTF-8 file up to 8 MiB and 50,000 rows. Export it from Performance in Search Console. Use either this or the pasted rows, not both.

Paste the exported rows, or leave this empty and choose the file. The first row naming Clicks and Impressions is treated as the header.

For comparison, use matching dimensions and filters. Enter the newer period in the current inputs.

    More options

Required for comparison if you do not choose a previous file. Use the same dimension, property and filters.

Comparison only. One UTF-8 CSV up to 8 MiB. Use either this file or the previous pasted rows.

How to use Search Console Export Analyzer

      1. Export the same Performance dimension, property, search type and filters for each period. Use comparable period lengths.
      2. Choose One export or Compare two periods. Put the newer CSV in the current inputs, using a file or pasted rows.
      3. For comparison, open More options and add the previous CSV as a file or pasted rows.
      4. Select Analyze search export. Read the metric changes and presence notes, then download the report CSV.

      Example: Search Console Export Analyzer

Total a small Pages export that already carries its own totals line.

      You add
A CSV with the header Top pages, Clicks, Impressions, CTR, Position, two rows (https://example.com/ with 120 clicks, 4000 impressions, 3%, 4.2 and https://example.com/pricing with 80 clicks, 2000 impressions, 4%, 6.1) and a final row labelled Totals with 200 clicks, 6000 impressions, 3.33% and 4.83.
      You get
Rows read 2, 200 clicks, 6,000 impressions and a 3.33% click through rate, with an average position of 4.83. The totals row matches the rows, so no mismatch note appears and the downloaded report CSV starts with Rows read,2.

      Options

      CSV rows
Pasting is useful when you copied a few lines out of a spreadsheet. The same reading applies, so the first row naming Clicks and Impressions becomes the header wherever it falls.
      Search Console CSV (optional)
The file you get from the Export button in the Performance report, saved as CSV. It stays on your device; the page never signs in to Search Console or calls its API.
      Compare two periods
Current inputs hold the newer period; previous inputs are in More options. Rows join on exact labels. Absolute count deltas, relative percentages, CTR points and position improvement use current minus previous, except position improvement which is previous minus current.

      Supported inputs and limits

One UTF-8 CSV per period, each up to 8 MiB, 50,000 rows and 12 columns. Clicks and Impressions headers must be in English. Invalid counts are skipped with line notes; labels over 512 characters are rejected. Totals rows are held aside. Comparison requires one matching dimension and unique exact item labels per period; Date exports cannot be compared by item. Pages and Queries cannot be mixed. CTR uses clicks divided by impressions; average position is weighted by the impressions of rows that have a position. Relative count changes from zero and unavailable CTR/position comparisons show N/A. CTR changes are percentage points; positive position improvement means a lower numeric position. An absent item contributes zero exported counts, which does not establish zero traffic. The comparison table shows up to 100 largest absolute click changes and its CSV includes all matched items. All totals describe supplied rows, not the whole property.

What an export can and cannot answer

The Performance report answers questions about impressions and clicks for a set of pages or queries over a date range, and the CSV is a copy of the table on screen. It reflects the filters that were set when you exported, it counts an impression when a link appeared and a click when someone followed it, and it cannot show why a query moved or whether an entry came from a person or a bot. Average position is a rough guide, because it is itself an average over a period and its ordering changes as the set of rows changes. Read the totals next to the rows they describe, keep the date range with the file, and compare like with like.

Questions about Search Console Export Analyzer

Why can the totals differ from Search Console?

An export can omit rows, including anonymized queries. Filters and dimensions can also affect totals. This report adds the valid rows you supply and holds any Totals row aside. Check both exports use matching filters and comparable date ranges before interpreting a change.

      Where is the export button?

Open Performance from the left menu, set the date range and the tabs you want, then use the Export button above the table and choose CSV. The export follows whatever filters and comparison you have set, so check those before you save the file.

Why does the average position differ from what I see in the report?

The figure here is weighted by impressions, so a row with many impressions moves the average more than a row with a few. Search Console reports an average position for the set of rows on screen, and the rounding and the rows included both affect the last decimal place.

      Is my export uploaded?

No. The file is read in this browser and the report is built from it locally. Nothing is sent to a server, and the download is created from the same text, so a property's data never leaves the device.

Does an item in only one export mean it is new or gone?

It means the item appears in only one of the supplied files. Export limits or filters can leave out traffic. The report labels that presence and treats missing exported counts as zero for arithmetic, while leaving unavailable CTR and position changes undefined.
