A notice about a closed service desk can become inaccurate through a very small edit. Changing “we expect to reopen” to “we will reopen” turns a forecast into a promise. When deciding how to edit AI-generated text, keep the original beside the revision and check those small changes first.
The Writing Editor can correct grammar, rewrite, adjust tone or simplify text. Its change notes quote passages from your draft, which helps you find the place to review.
Start with a settled source
Save a copy of the draft before submitting it. Confirm its names, dates and conditions against the information you actually have. An editor cannot recover a missing fact from a sentence that sounds plausible.
For this illustrative notice, the facts are already settled:
The library desk are closed on Tuesday. We expect to reopen on Wednesday if the repair is complete. Existing loans will not receive late fees during the closure.
The grammatical error sits in the first sentence. The next two sentences contain a reopening condition and a fee rule that must survive the edit.
Choose the smallest useful editing mode
- Paste the notice into Your draft. The field accepts up to 10,000 characters.
- Set Editing mode to Grammar and spelling. This asks for a smaller intervention than Rewrite.
- Select Edit writing and complete browser verification when prompted.
- Read Edited text alongside the original, then inspect the Changes table.
Preferred tone appears when you choose Adjust tone. You could describe a reader and register there, such as “a polite, direct notice for library visitors.” It is not a separate fact-checking field. Use Simplify when sentence difficulty is the problem, or Rewrite when the wording needs broader work.
An acceptable illustrative edit is:
The library desk is closed on Tuesday. We expect to reopen on Wednesday if the repair is complete. Existing loans will not receive late fees during the closure.
The change from “are” to “is” fixes agreement. Nothing else needs to move.
Compare meaning before accepting smoother wording
Read each revised sentence and ask what a visitor would now believe. Tuesday must remain the closure day. Wednesday must remain conditional on completing the repair. The fee sentence must still say that existing loans will not receive late fees during this closure.
Reject a revision such as “The desk reopens Wednesday” unless someone has confirmed that stronger commitment. Also reject wording that broadens the fee rule to all future loans or removes the closure period.
The source quotes in Changes establish where a note points. They do not prove that the new wording preserves meaning, and the list does not show every edit. Compare the full versions when dates or commitments matter.
After review, use Copy result or select the needed text and place the approved wording in your document. Keep the original with your working notes. The combined form has a 12,000-character cap, and submitted text goes to the site's configured AI providers, so remove private details the edit does not need.
