Use explicit *; sin, cos and tan use radians. Powers need constant exponents.

How to use Derivative Calculator

  1. Enter a supported real expression with explicit multiplication.
  2. Set the point at which to evaluate its derivative.
  3. Review the symbolic derivative, value and original domain restrictions.

Example: Derivative Calculator

Derivative Calculator: Symbolic derivative for the supported real expression.

You add
Expression in x: x^3 + sin(x) Evaluate derivative at x: 0
You get
Symbolic derivative for the supported real expression. d/dx = ((3 * (x ^ 2)) + cos(x)) At x = 0: 1 Original domain restrictions still apply. Derivative at x | 1 x | 0

Options

Expression grammar
Use explicit multiplication and the supported functions. Trigonometric arguments use radians.
Evaluation point
The chosen x must satisfy the original expression’s real-domain restrictions as well as those of the derivative.

Supported inputs and limits

Expressions up to 500 characters, 200 tokens and 32 nested levels. Use explicit multiplication, x, pi, e, + − * / ^ and sin, cos, tan, exp, ln, sqrt. Symbolic powers require finite constant exponents. Trig uses radians and original real-domain restrictions remain.

Simplification does not remove original restrictions

An algebraically simpler derivative can still come from an expression undefined at some inputs. Check the original domain when using an evaluated value. Unsupported syntax is refused; the page is not a general computer-algebra system or a proof of differentiability everywhere.

Questions about Derivative Calculator

Are angles measured in degrees?

No. The supported trigonometric functions use radians.

Can I enter 2x instead of 2*x?

No. Multiplication must use an explicit asterisk.

Does simplification remove the original domain restrictions?

No. A rewritten derivative does not make an excluded original point valid.
