How to use Product Category Mapper
- Paste Products CSV with the exact header id,name, description and a unique ID for each product. Supply enough facts to distinguish neighboring product types.
- Paste Categories CSV with the exact header id,parent_id,label. Leave parent_id empty for roots; every other parent must name an existing category ID.
- Add Catalogue context for shop-specific distinctions, then select Map product categories and complete browser verification when prompted.
- Review Category assignments and unmatched rows against the supplied descriptions. Only leaf categories can be assigned, and the site builds paths from your tree rather than accepting invented paths.
- Download CSV for assignments, paths and reasons. Download JSON includes source evidence as well, including quotes omitted from a large display. Importing reviewed assignments into a shop is a separate step.
Example: Product Category Mapper
Place a product in an approved shop taxonomy.
Options
- Category hierarchy
- Use unique IDs and valid parent references. Cycles are rejected and hierarchy depth is limited to six levels.
- Mapping context
- Explain shop-specific distinctions such as accessories versus replacement parts. Categories outside the tree cannot be assigned.
Supported inputs and limits
- Use 1 to 30 products within 8,000 CSV characters and 1 to 30 categories within 3,000.
- Catalogue context allows 500 characters.
- IDs are unique within each list and at most 100 characters; product names allow 200 and category labels 75.
- Quote cells containing CSV separators or line breaks.
- Category depth is at most six levels, counting a root as level one.
More details
Every nonblank parent must exist; self-parenting and cycles are refused.
Only leaf IDs or unmatched results are accepted.
Long names or category paths can exceed display-size limits and require a smaller list.
Source quotes anchor suggested assignments but do not prove a correct classification.
The tool does not change a shop, create missing categories or determine tax or customs classifications.
Where your input is processed
Your input is uploaded to this site and sent to a configured AI provider. If a provider fails, the request may be sent to the next eligible provider. Check its result before use. Private inputs and results expire within one hour and are excluded from site backups; temporary files are removed by scheduled cleanup. Provider retention rules may differ. Avoid submitting passwords or highly sensitive information.
Make neighboring categories distinguishable
Leaf labels should describe clear product types. If labels overlap, add context explaining the boundary and review those matches first. Paths are built from the supplied hierarchy, so generated text cannot introduce an unapproved branch. Exported assignments are a review file. Importing them into a store is a separate decision that should use your normal catalogue checks.
Questions about Product Category Mapper
Can it create missing categories?
No. Unmatched rows remain visible so you can improve descriptions or revise the tree yourself.
Can there be several roots?
Yes. Every nonblank parent must exist, and no category may be its own parent or form a cycle.
Does it replace product information?
Original IDs and names remain tied to assignments. Reasons and source quotes explain the suggestion without rewriting descriptions.
