What do you have?

Used when you have a timestamp. Digits only, with a minus sign for values before 1970.

The tool never switches this for you. It can suggest a unit and you confirm it.

Used when you have a date and time.

Used by Inspect ISO. Calendar dates only, 1900–2100; timestamps require an offset.

Used by Construct ISO with the Date and Time fields. Enter Z or ±HH:mm; this is a fixed offset, with no daylight saving rules.

Use the 24-hour clock, for example 09:30. Construct ISO also accepts seconds and up to three fractional digits.

A name such as UTC or Europe/London. The date you typed is read in this zone, and an unknown name is refused.

How to use Unix Timestamp Converter

  1. Choose what you have under What do you have?
  2. For a timestamp, paste the digits into Timestamp and confirm Is that timestamp in seconds or milliseconds?
  3. For a date, enter Date, Time and Time zone for that date and time.
  4. Choose the earlier or later occurrence if the local time happens twice.
  5. The converted date or timestamp updates as you change the fields.

Example: Unix Timestamp Converter

Read the epoch value for the start of 2026 in UTC.

You add
What do you have?: A timestamp, and I want the date and time; Timestamp: 1767225600; unit: Seconds; Time zone for that date and time: UTC.
You get
2026-01-01 00:00:00 UTC at a UTC+00:00 offset, with the same instant shown as 1767225600000 milliseconds. Converting 2026-01-01 00:00 in UTC back the other way returns 1767225600 seconds.

Options

Is that timestamp in seconds or milliseconds?
Ten digits is usually seconds and thirteen digits is usually milliseconds, and the tool suggests a unit from the digit count. The choice stays yours, so a pasted millisecond value is never divided without telling you.
Time zone for that date and time
The zone changes the clock reading and can change the calendar day, but it never changes the underlying instant. Every result lists UTC as well.
If the local time happens twice
Used only when a date and time falls inside a repeated hour. The earlier occurrence is the default.
ISO inspection and construction
Inspect YYYY-MM-DD or a timestamp such as 2026-01-01T12:00:00+06:00. Construct uses the Date, Time and ISO offset fields. A date alone has no instant. A fixed offset is separate from a named time zone and has no daylight saving rules.

Supported inputs and limits

Seconds run from -2208988800, which is 1 January 1900, to 4102444800, which is 1 January 2100, and milliseconds use the same span in whole numbers. Seconds may carry a fraction, and the result notes that the display is rounded to whole seconds. The unit is an explicit choice, so the digit-length suggestion is a hint and never an automatic conversion. Negative values count backward from 1970. ISO mode accepts calendar dates in 1900–2100 and times with seconds, up to three fractional digits and Z or ±HH:mm. Overflow dates, leap seconds, unknown -00:00 offsets, week dates and ordinal dates are refused.

The zone changes the clock, not the instant

A timestamp names a moment, not a place. Reading 1767225600 in UTC gives 2026-01-01 00:00:00, and reading the same value in a zone ahead of UTC gives a later clock time, still on the same number. The instant is fixed, so the zone only decides which local clock you compare it against.

Questions about Unix Timestamp Converter

Is a 10-digit number seconds and a 13-digit number milliseconds?

Usually. 1767225600 is a second value and 1767225600000 is the same instant in milliseconds. The tool suggests a unit from the digit count, but you confirm it, so a genuine 10-digit millisecond value is not misread.

What date is timestamp 0?

1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC, the reference point the Unix clock counts from.

Why does a negative timestamp show a 1969 date?

Minus 1 counts one second before the reference point, which is 1969-12-31 23:59:59 UTC.

Does the time zone change the timestamp?

No. One instant is the same number everywhere. The zone changes the clock reading and can move the calendar day, and the result shows UTC next to the zone you picked.

Can I enter a fraction of a second?

Yes, in seconds mode. A value such as 1767225600.25 is accepted and the result marks that the display is rounded to whole seconds. Milliseconds are whole numbers in the same span.
