Digits only, for example 1099511627776. A dot is accepted for a fraction, and thousands separators are refused.

Decimal prefixes and binary prefixes are separate options, so a capital B for bytes is never confused with a lowercase b for bits.

Whole results always keep every digit; this setting applies only when the result has a fraction.

How to use Digital Storage Converter

  1. Enter the Amount using digits and a dot for any fraction.
  2. Choose the source unit under Convert from, checking whether it says MB or MiB.
  3. Choose the target unit under Convert to.
  4. Set Decimal places for a fractional result. The result updates as you change the values.
  5. Read the converted amount and the exact byte count in the result.

Example: Digital Storage Converter

Convert megabytes to bytes.

You add
Value: 1. Convert from: Megabytes (MB, 1000000 bytes). Convert to: Bytes. Decimal places: 8.
You get
The result reads 1 MB = 1,000,000 byte, and the table repeats 1,000,000 B in the exact bytes row. The decimal reading uses 1000000 bytes per megabyte, not the binary 1048576.

Options

Decimal places
Choose 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 places for a fractional converted amount. Whole results keep all digits, and the table retains the exact byte count.

Supported inputs and limits

Supported units are bits, bytes, decimal kB through TB, and binary KiB through TiB. Input may contain up to 31 digits and must be no greater than 10^30 in the selected unit. Use a dot for a fraction; commas and negative quantities are rejected. An unlabeled 'KB' is ambiguous, so choose kB or KiB explicitly. This converts stored quantities, not download speeds or bits per second. Check the unit label on your source before trusting a comparison.

Why decimal and binary prefixes differ

Decimal prefixes step by 1,000: 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes. Binary prefixes step by 1,024: 1 MiB is 1,048,576 bytes. The same file can therefore show different numerical sizes when software changes the displayed unit. Keep the prefix with every result instead of copying the number alone.

Questions about Digital Storage Converter

Why is 1 MB less than 1 MiB?

One MB is 1,000,000 bytes, while one MiB is 1,048,576 bytes. Converting 1 MB into MiB therefore gives about 0.95367432 MiB.

What is the difference between b and B?

A lowercase b means bits and an uppercase B means bytes. One byte is eight bits. The form lists the two units separately so the letter case remains visible.

Can I use KB from an unlabeled file listing?

First find out whether the listing means 1,000-byte kilobytes or 1,024-byte kibibytes. The tool offers kB and KiB but does not guess what an ambiguous KB label meant.

Will this convert Mbps to MB per second?

No. Mbps is a transfer rate, while this calculator handles storage amounts. A time component would be needed to compare rates or estimate a download duration.
