How to use CSV Viewer
- Paste your rows into CSV or TSV text, or choose a file.
- Set Delimiter to Detect automatically unless the file is unusual.
- Use Find rows containing, Sort by column and Columns to hide.
- Read the summary for row counts and any warnings.
Example: CSV Viewer
Open a small CSV that holds a quoted comma and a quoted line break.
Options
- Sort values as
- The default text mode compares digit runs as numbers, which keeps an identifier such as 0012 in a sensible place. Numbers-first mode compares real numbers by value and falls back to text for every other cell.
- Columns to hide
- Comma-separated column names left out of the table. Hiding changes only the view; the values stay in the data.
- Conditions, sort order and download
- Use the column and test dropdowns to add conditions, then choose whether every condition or any condition must match. Add sort keys in priority order. The preview page number limits only what you see; the CSV download contains the full matching set.
Supported inputs and limits
Where your input is processed
This tool processes your input in this browser. Your text and files are not uploaded to UseFreeTools. Check this tool's limits for anything it may save on your device.
Sorting never rewrites your values
A sorted view is a new order for the rows on screen, not an edit to the text you opened. That matters for an identifier column, where 0012 is a label rather than the number twelve. The row number follows each row back to its original position in the file.
What the warnings mean
Short rows, long rows and repeated header names produce a warning rather than a silent guess. Reading those notes first stops a column count from looking right when the file is not rectangular.
Questions about CSV Viewer
Why does my ID column show 0012 instead of 12?
Every cell is kept as text, so a leading zero is never coerced into a number. A sort may compare a value, but the displayed text does not change.
Why do some rows show empty cells?
Those rows hold fewer values than the header, so the missing cells are padded and a warning reports the count.
My file is refused as not UTF-8. What do I do?
Re-export it as UTF-8. In Excel, choose CSV UTF-8 rather than the older CSV option.
Does hiding a column remove it from the file?
No. Hidden columns are omitted only from the preview. The download contains every column and every matching row, with the selected formula protection.
