Blur can soften an area, while pixelation gives it a blocky appearance. If the goal is to remove a private number from a screenshot, a solid opaque cover is the more appropriate option in UseFreeTools' image editor. These edits serve different purposes.

A sample screenshot might contain a delivery address and a customer reference. Blurring the area until it looks unreadable at a small size is not a dependable information-removal test. The underlying pattern can still carry detail.

Choose the treatment from the reason

Blur can make a distracting background less prominent. Pixelation can provide a deliberate visual effect. Neither should be presented as secure redaction of sensitive text.

Blur, Pixelate or Redact Image explains that its solid-fill mode replaces the selected exported pixels with an opaque color. The tool redraws the output image. Your original file remains on your device, so the edited download and the source are different files to manage.

The useful question is specific: which information must the recipient not receive? For an address, cover the entire address rather than a few characters. For a reference, consider whether the remaining prefix or suffix identifies the record in context.

Give the region enough space

Inspect the image at full size before placing a rectangular region. Small text, punctuation and the ends of a line can sit beyond the area you first notice. Leave a reasonable margin around the intended content, without obscuring information the recipient needs.

Check neighboring areas too. A screenshot can repeat a name in a heading, browser tab, message preview or sidebar. Covering the central field does not remove those copies. A photograph can reveal a place through a street sign or landmark even after metadata is removed.

You can enter rectangles or draw rectangles and brush segments on the preview. Brush strokes become rectangular segments, so a diagonal movement can cover extra pixels. The smaller preview writes coordinates in original-image units; inspect the actual download at full size. There is no automatic face or plate detection and no scan of the rest of the picture for private information.

Review the file you will share

Download the edited image and open that exact file separately. Zoom into the covered region and inspect its edges. Then step back and read the surrounding content as a stranger would. Does the remaining scene disclose the same information indirectly?

For an example that will be published widely, replacing the whole screenshot with synthetic sample content can be simpler than editing a real private record. Label the example appropriately and avoid carrying real account details into its title or filename.

Share the edited output, rather than attaching the original alongside it. Keep the original only where it belongs under your normal file-handling process. A solid cover addresses the selected pixels; a careful review addresses whether you selected all the information that needed attention.
